1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, tablet, or mobile phone) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, to remember your preferences, and to provide information to website owners about how their site is being used.
Cookies are set by either the website you are visiting (called "first-party cookies") or by third-party services that the website uses, such as Google Analytics or advertising networks (called "third-party cookies"). Each cookie has a name, a value, an expiry date, and the domain it belongs to.
Cookies cannot run programs or deliver viruses to your computer. They are uniquely assigned to your browser and can only be read by the web server that set them.
First-Party Cookies
Set directly by EuroTaxCalc (eurotaxcalc.com). Used to remember your cookie consent preference. These are set from our own domain.
Third-Party Cookies
Set by external services we use โ Google Analytics and Google AdSense. These are set from Google's domains (google.com, doubleclick.net, googlesyndication.com).
2. How We Use Cookies
EuroTaxCalc uses cookies for two main purposes:
Site Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use EuroTaxCalc โ which country pages and calculators are most popular, how long people spend on the site, and what devices and browsers are used. This helps us improve the site. GA4 analytics cookies are only set after you give consent.
Advertising
We use Google AdSense to display advertisements on EuroTaxCalc. AdSense uses cookies to show you relevant ads based on your interests and browsing history. Advertising cookies are only set after you give consent. You can opt out of personalised ads at any time.
Your Consent Preference
We store your cookie consent choice in a small first-party cookie so we do not ask you again on every visit. This cookie contains only your preference (accepted/declined) โ no personal data. It expires after 12 months.
EuroTaxCalc does NOT use cookies for:
- Storing or transmitting any calculator inputs (salary, income, or tax figures)
- Building user profiles or tracking individuals across other websites (beyond standard AdSense behaviour)
- Any form of social media tracking (we do not use Facebook Pixel, Twitter/X Pixel, TikTok Pixel, or similar)
- Remarketing or retargeting campaigns run by EuroTaxCalc
- Any purpose not listed in this Cookie Policy
3. Types of Cookies We Use
We classify cookies into three categories based on their purpose:
Essential / Strictly Necessary Cookies
These cookies are required for EuroTaxCalc to function properly. They do not track you or collect personal data beyond what is technically required. Under GDPR, strictly necessary cookies do not require consent. We use one essential cookie: to store your cookie consent preference.
Consent required: No โ these are strictly necessary
Analytics Cookies
These cookies collect anonymised information about how visitors use EuroTaxCalc โ pages visited, time spent, device type, and approximate location (country/city level). This data is processed by Google Analytics 4 (GA4). No personally identifiable information is collected. These cookies are only set after you give consent.
Consent required: Yes โ required before setting
Advertising / Marketing Cookies
These cookies are set by Google AdSense and its partners to serve relevant advertisements based on your interests and browsing history. They may track your activity across multiple websites. These cookies are only set after you give consent. You can opt out of personalised ads at any time via Google Ad Settings.
Consent required: Yes โ required before setting

5. Google Analytics (GA4) Cookies
EuroTaxCalc uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4), provided by Google LLC. GA4 cookies help us understand how visitors interact with our website. The data collected is anonymised โ we cannot identify individual visitors from GA4 data.
What GA4 cookies collect on our behalf:
- Pages visited and time spent on each page
- Approximate country and city (IP address is anonymised โ last octet removed before storage)
- Device type, browser, and operating system
- How visitors arrived at EuroTaxCalc (search engine, direct link, referral)
- Aggregated user behaviour data (scroll depth, clicks)
What GA4 cookies do NOT collect:
- Any calculator inputs (salary figures, income, tax data)
- Your name, email address, or any directly identifiable personal information
- Precise GPS location
- We have NOT enabled GA4 Advertising Features, remarketing, or demographic reporting
Legal basis (GDPR): We rely on your consent as the legal basis for GA4 analytics cookies. GA4 cookies are only set after you give consent via our cookie banner. You can withdraw consent at any time.
To opt out of Google Analytics across all websites, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. More information: Google Privacy Policy.
6. Google AdSense Cookies
EuroTaxCalc uses Google AdSense to display advertisements. AdSense uses cookies to serve ads that are relevant to your interests. These cookies are set by Google and its advertising partners, and may be associated with the domains doubleclick.net, googlesyndication.com, and google.com.
Google AdSense Disclosure: Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to EuroTaxCalc or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this and other sites on the internet. Users may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ad Settings. Alternatively, opt out of third-party vendor use of cookies for interest-based advertising by visiting aboutads.info.
What AdSense cookies do:
- Serve personalised ads based on your browsing history and interests
- Measure ad performance (impressions, clicks, conversions)
- Prevent showing the same ad too many times (frequency capping)
- Detect fraudulent clicks and protect advertisers
Legal basis (GDPR): We rely on your consent as the legal basis for advertising cookies. AdSense cookies are only set after you give consent. If you are located in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, we comply with Google's EU User Consent Policy and will not serve personalised ads without your explicit consent.
7. Your Cookie Choices
You have several ways to manage your cookie preferences on EuroTaxCalc and across the web:
Cookie Consent Banner
When you first visit EuroTaxCalc, you will see a cookie consent banner. You can accept all cookies, decline non-essential cookies, or manage your preferences. You can change your choice at any time by clearing your browser cookies and revisiting the site.
Opt Out of Google Analytics
Install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on to prevent GA4 from collecting data about your visits across all websites.
Download GA Opt-out Add-on โOpt Out of Google Personalised Ads
Visit Google Ad Settings to control how Google uses your data for ad personalisation, or visit aboutads.info to opt out of interest-based advertising from multiple providers at once.
Browser Cookie Settings
You can control cookies directly in your browser settings โ blocking all cookies, deleting existing cookies, or allowing only certain types. See Section 8 below for browser-specific instructions.
Please note: Declining analytics and advertising cookies will not affect your ability to use EuroTaxCalc's tax calculators. All calculator functionality works without any non-essential cookies. However, declining cookies means we cannot improve the site based on usage data, and you may see generic (non-personalised) ads instead of relevant ones.
8. How to Control Cookies in Your Browser
Most web browsers give you control over cookies through their settings. Here is how to manage cookies in the most popular browsers:
Google Chrome โ
Settings โ Privacy and Security โ Cookies and other site data
Mozilla Firefox โ
Settings โ Privacy & Security โ Cookies and Site Data
Apple Safari โ
Preferences โ Privacy โ Manage Website Data
Microsoft Edge โ
Settings โ Cookies and site permissions โ Manage and delete cookies
Opera โ
Settings โ Advanced โ Privacy & Security โ Site Settings โ Cookies
Samsung Internet โ
Settings โ Sites and downloads โ Delete browsing data
Please be aware that blocking all cookies may prevent some features of websites from functioning correctly. Restricting only third-party cookies (while allowing first-party cookies) is a good balance that maintains most website functionality while limiting tracking.
9. GDPR and Your Rights
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK GDPR give you specific rights regarding cookies and the personal data they may collect.
Your rights under GDPR regarding cookies:
Right to Consent
Non-essential cookies (analytics and advertising) require your freely given, specific, informed, and unambiguous consent before being set. We obtain this via our cookie banner.
Right to Withdraw
You can withdraw your cookie consent at any time. Withdrawal is as easy as giving consent โ clear your cookies and decline when the banner reappears.
Right to Access
You can request information about what personal data has been collected about you through cookies and how it is used.
Right to Erasure
You can request deletion of personal data collected through cookies. For Google's data, use Google's privacy tools or contact us.
EuroTaxCalc complies with Google's EU User Consent Policy, which requires obtaining consent from users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland before serving personalised ads or setting non-essential cookies. Our cookie consent banner is shown to all visitors and does not use pre-ticked boxes or dark patterns โ consent is always freely given.
To exercise your GDPR rights regarding data collected by Google Analytics or Google AdSense, you can also contact Google directly via Google's Privacy Controls.
To exercise your rights with EuroTaxCalc directly, contact us at hello@eurotaxcalc.com.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time โ for example, when we add new third-party services, when cookie names or durations change, or when privacy laws are updated. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
If we make significant changes to the types of cookies we use โ for example, adding a new advertising partner โ we will notify you via the cookie consent banner so you can review and update your preferences.
We encourage you to review this Cookie Policy periodically to stay informed about how we use cookies.
